Triple Richmond premiership ruckman Toby Nankervis was the best of a high-class Tiger bunch against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium last Thursday night in the eyes of respective coaches Damien Hardwick and Brett Ratten.

It was a clean sweep vote-wise for the Tigers, who won the clash by 86 points.

Nankervis, with 22 disposals, six clearances, three inside-50s, five intercepts, six score involvements, six tackles and 40 hit-outs, was awarded seven votes in the 2021 AFL Coaches’ Association’s Champion Player of the Year Round 5 voting.

Five votes apiece went to Jack Graham – 17 disposals, three goals, 12 tackles – and Shane Edwards – 29 disposals, seven inside-50s, seven clearances, four rebound-50s, one goal, nine score involvements and 521 metres gained.

Jack Riewoldt and Dustin Martin both polled four votes. Riewoldt finished the match with 17 disposals, eight marks (seven of them inside 50), a game-high five goals, an equal game-high 10 score involvements and 443 metres gained. Martin had a game-high 34 disposals, game-high eight inside-50s, five clearances, one goal, five score involvements and game-high 562 metres gained.

Rounding out the Richmond Round 5 vote-getters in the prestigious coaches’ award were Shai Bolton and captain Trent Cotchin.

Bolton – 29 disposals, a game-high eight clearances, five inside-50s, five marks, one goal, eight score involvements and 431 metres gained – received three votes.

Cotchin was given two votes for a trademark strong showing – 21 disposals, five clearances and four score involvements.
