Join the Punt Road push for glory
Punt Road Oval is a veritable Yellow and Black “field of dreams”.
Over the years, the hallowed turf at Richmond’s home has played host to some truly magical moments and glorious Tiger triumphs . . .
There was the day Doug Strang booted a Club record 14 goals, against North Melbourne, in Round 2 of the 1931 season. That was the same day a raw-boned, 17-year-old, by the name of Jack Dyer, made his senior league debut with the Tigers.
There was the day Jack Baggott bagged 12 goals against South Melbourne, in Round 9 of the 1928 season.
There was freakish full-forward Jack Titus’ outstanding goalkicking performances. The man they called ‘Skinny’ kicked more goals at Punt Road than any other player.
There was Richmond’s 24 consecutive home wins in-a-row, from Round 11, 1932 to Round 4, 1935.
This is just a mere snapshot of some of the mighty Tiger achievements to have taken place at Punt Road.
Until now, however, Punt Road had never hosted a world record attempt.
That all changes tomorrow (Friday, February 24) when Richmond, in conjunction with national charity, The Alannah and Madeline Foundation, seeks to set a world record for most number of people performing push-ups at the one time.
The ‘Push Up For Your Mates’ world record challenge will raise funds for the Foundation’s ‘Better Buddies Framework’, which helps to create caring, friendly school communities, and protect children from bullying.
For Richmond fans, this is a wonderful opportunity to strive for world record glory, alongside their favourite Tiger players, on the Yellow and Black Field of Dreams, all in the name of a tremendous cause.
Jake King is leading the charge on behalf of the Tigers, and is hell-bent on living up to his reputation as ‘The Push-up King’.
The world record attempt will take place around 4.30pm tomorrow, following an open Richmond training session that starts at 3pm.
Tiger supporters can register to take part in Push Up For Your Mates by filling in the form below. They can also sign up on the day from 3pm, with all participants needing to arrive at the ground before 4pm.
Gold coin donations will enable the Club to raise funds for The Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s Better Buddies Framework.
