Coincidentally, it’s eight years ago tomorrow (June 4, 2005) that Aaron Edwards made his AFL debut, for West Coast against Richmond at the MCG.
The Eagles won that game by two points, with Edwards picking up 12 disposals (including five inside-50 entries), taking eight marks and kicking two goals in an impressive first-up display.
Tonight at Perth’s Paterson Stadium, Edwards, now 29, will debut for his third league club, Richmond, in a big Round 10 match against his old club West Coast.
Richmond’s Hall of Fame dinner is only two weeks away. Purchase your tickets for this great night at Crown’s Palladium.
In between, Edwards played 78 games with North Melbourne and kicked 122 goals.
He was traded to Richmond by the Roos last October and has been hammering on the door of senior selection with the Club following a string of strong performances at VFL level for Coburg.
His opportunity in the Tiger team has now arrived, which pleases him and, at the same time, has him determined to make the most of it.
“I had some good form in the VFL and it’s good to finally get a game . . . Hopefully, I can prove that I’m up to it,” Edwards told ‘Roar Vision’.
“It’s been a hard month, but you just keep on trying to do everything right and have a positive attitude . . .
“All I’ve got to do is try to do all the right team things . . . do everything right on that side of things, and the attitude as well. If we can get a win at the end of it, that’d be a perfect result.”
The fact his return to AFL football will be at the stadium formerly known as Subiaco, is another positive for Edwards.
“I spent three years here and really enjoyed it, so it’s good to be back,” he said.
“I’ve played a few games here since, so, hopefully, we can get away with a win.”
