Richmond VFL coach Tim Clarke admitted that the Tigers should’ve got more out the draw against Frankston last weekend, but was pleased with his side’s strong start and the performance of Aaron Edwards in his return from injury.
The Tigers led for the majority of the game, after kicking six goals to one in first term, but rued missed opportunities in the last quarter as the Dolphins stormed back.

“The team was quite good, we worked really well together, [played] some of the best footy we’ve played,” he told Roar Vision.
“We’ve struggled with our offensive ball movement most of the year and we’ve finally come to a game and played for two-and-a-half quarters of the style of football we expect from our players.
"We were really pleased with how we played in the first two-and-a-half quarters, but very disappointed that we couldn’t finish off the game.”
Despite the ANZAC Day stalemate, Clarke said the form of Edwards, as well as other AFL-listed Tigers Ty Vickery and Liam McBean, was encouraging. McBean and Vickery kicked three goals each against Frankston while Edwards booted two.
“’Azza’ played a role for us through the midfield, which was a bit different to where he’s been playing before he got injured. He’s a very good footballer at VFL level. He’s a terrific contributor at AFL level,” he said.
Richmond expects injured trio Matt Dea, Nathan Foley and Cadeyn Williams to return for Sunday’s clash against Geelong at the ME Bank Centre, which is the Tigers’ first home game of season.
“It’s just really good to get some of these senior guys back … alongside our VFL players. It gives them a little bit of a pick-up and hopefully we can improve in the next two or three weeks with these guys in our side,” Clarke said.
“[Geelong] are a terrific organisation. Their VFL team has been competitive for a number of years, along with their AFL side, so I think it’ll be a great contest.”
