Richmond has suffered its fourth straight loss after falling to Fremantle by 61-points at Barossa Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers trailed by just 10-points at halftime after a fast-paced opening two terms, with positives once again on display from Richmond’s youngsters.

However, the Dockers proved to be too good in the second half, kicking nine goals to one after the main break, with the final score being 16.12 (108) to 7.5 (47).

Jacob Hopper’s 33 disposals were the most by any player on the ground, with Richmond’s other major ball winners being Tim Taranto (26 disposals), Jayden Short (25), Tom Brown (24), Luke Trainor (22) and Sam Banks (21).

It was the perfect start for the Tigers, who generated a goal almost immediately from the first bounce.

Toby Nankervis, in his 150th game for the Club, tapped it down to Hopper, who combined with Kamdyn McIntosh for an inside 50. Debutant Jonty Faull made a positive impact in his first contest, getting the ball to ground for Maurice Rioli, who swooped and booted the opening goal.

Rioli, playing his first senior game of the season, would add a second major later in the term, converting a set-shot after Hopper, Nankervis and Taranto linked up in the middle to push the ball forward.

Early days saw Richmond playing with a pressure reminiscent of the breakthrough Round 1 win against Carlton, the youngsters hassling and harrying, particularly in attack where they leant into their smaller forward line.

Each team kicked four goals apiece in the first quarter, with Richmond then adding the first two goals of the second term.

Steely Green gave Tiger fans plenty to cheer about, with a sensational snapping goal from deep in the forward pocket showcasing his strong ability in front of the big sticks.

It was all Fremantle in the third and fourth quarters, though, as the Dockers flexed their muscle to run away with the victory.

Tom Lynch was subbed out of the game at three quarter time, replaced by Jacob Bauer.

Richmond’s focus now shifts to next Saturday night, when it hosts the Gold Coast Suns at Marvel Stadium.
