Richmond coach Adem Yze says Tiger debutant Jonty Faull will be highly competitive and provide a strong contest on Sunday.
Faull was selected with the 14th pick in last year’s draft and becomes the fifth Tiger to debut this season, joining Sam Lalor, Luke Trainor, Harry Armstrong and Liam Fawcett.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Yze gave an insight into the key forward’s game and what fans can expect to see from him against the Dockers.
“He’s a competitive kid. He loves the contest, can kick a goal from anywhere within 60 and he is a great teammate,” Yze said.
“He warranted his selection, we are not rushing him in, he would have been in the team even if Harry didn’t hurt himself at training.
“He is ready to play, he’ll compete and hopefully hits the scoreboard. He is a beauty.”
Faull collected eight disposals in Richmond VFL's Round 1 win over Coburg, picked up 13 touches and four marks the following week in the win over Sandringham, and he booted two goals in last week’s victory over Brisbane.
In unfortunate news, Armstrong is expected to be sidelined for around 12 weeks after he suffered a high-grade injury to his hamstring tendon following an awkward contest at training on Thursday.
“We are feeling (for him). He was just starting to get his career going, but we will wrap our arms around him,” Yze said of Armstrong.
“He is just starting his career, just scratching the surface. He will get an opportunity to get bigger and stronger during that time and come back at the latter part of the season.
“Unfortunate but it will give someone else a chance.”
Lalor will also miss the Round 5 clash with Fremantle, and while Yze is hopeful the number one pick will be back next week, he confirmed the Club will take a no-risk approach to his return.
“Another unfortunate one. He was a little bit sore post-game and just didn’t get up,” Yze said of Lalor.
“We are hoping it’s just a one (game missed)…he has just aggravated his hip, a little hip flexor and we are hoping it’s only the one.
“As we will do with all of our young players, if there’s any risk next week, we won’t play him, we will give him that extra one. Right now, we are hoping it’s only one.”
