With just one week remaining until Richmond’s Round 1 clash against Carlton at the MCG, the squad completed a successful match simulation at Swinburne Centre.
Split into Yellow and Black, the teams completed a full-ground run, with the Black squad coming home with a 24-point win.
Most importantly, all players got through unscathed, with excitement and focus now fully on the season proper.
All attention turned to Richmond’s youngsters, who competed strongly in the 40-minute hit-out.
Key forward draftee Tom Sims made himself known early, taking an impressive pack mark 10 metres out, to slot the first major of the game, giving Yellow a promising start.
No.1 Draft pick Sam Lalor was also part of the match, kicking a set shot goal in the opening half, as he continues his recovery from a fractured jaw.
Fellow young goalkicker Harry Armstrong was prominent across the forward line, taking crucial marks and kicking one major as he looks to debut this season.
Yellow took a five-point lead into the break, before Black piled on the majors in the second half.
Luke Trainor was clean going through the middle, utilising pace around the ball and confidently attacking into the forward line, where he managed to kick a goal.
Sam Banks was full of praise for the 2024 draftee, who has made an instant impact.
“Lukey Trainor was good off half-back again,” he said.
“I think the second half as a team, we were much better.”
Veterans Nick Vlastuin and Nathan Broad were solid in defence, with Tom Brown also looking agile across the half-back line.
Lalor showed no signs of slowing down as he booted his second goal confidently.
Kamdyn McIntosh performed well alongside captain Toby Nankervis, allowing Banks to get in on the action and slot a stellar goal late in the match.
Banks highlighted Nankervis' output, as he prepares for his fourth season in charge.
“Nank in the ruck, he always sets the tone, as he does every single week,” Banks said post-match.
Jacob Bauer was confident in the air, attacking the ball and booting his side out to a 26-point lead, before the game ended with Black taking the win by 24 points.
