On the back of a gutsy effort against the reigning premier in Round 4, pressure midfielder Thomson Dow expects the same level of intensity this week against a strong Fremantle outfit.
“The consensus is that we are not satisfied, and we want to win,” Dow said.
“It was a good step forward, our pressure has been good, and we have been able to fight back when we are behind in halves.
“The main thing is we have to play a consistent four quarters, so if we can string that together we should be in good stead.”
Across the first four rounds, Dow ranks second within the Club in pressure acts, second in defensive half-pressure acts, third in tackles and fifth in disposals.
The 23-year-old said his defensive efforts is something he is always looking to hone in on.
“It’s something I’m always working on, it is a big part of the game,” Dow said.
“But I think there is still a long way to go and that’s what we are all striving to do.”
Richmond announced yesterday its newest Tiger debutant in key forward Jonty Faull, who will become the fifth debutant this year.
Dow had high praise for the new Tiger Cub crop who have been holding their own at the elite level.
“They have been awesome,” Dow said.
“I mean look at the way they have started, with the likes of (Sam) Lalor, (Luke) Trainor and big H (Harry Armstrong), they all bring such good energy which helps the group a lot.
“They have a voice, and they are all really helping us out so it will be good to see even more come through in the future.”
With the side preparing for Freo in South Australia's Barossa Valley as a part of Gather Round this Sunday, Dow said he is excited to compete on a neutral oval.
“Freo are good at travelling they do it a lot,” he said.
“But we are going there to win.
“We have checked out the dimensions of the pitch and it looks similar to the ‘G but it’s a bit skinnier, so we are excited for the challenge.”
Despite the Dockers winning their last two games, Dow believes that they will match up well on Sunday.
“We play a similar brand, they obviously like to play really quick, and they are a good contest team as well,” Dow said.
“The aim will be to match them in that and play with the speed that we know we can.”
Richmond face-off against Fremantle at Barossa Park on Sunday from 12.35pm AEST, 12:05pm ACST. The match will be broadcast live on Fox Footy and Kayo Sports.
