Richmond is set to welcome back premiership pair Shane Edwards and David Astbury for a pre-finals clash with Adelaide on Saturday afternoon.

Edwards has completed his quarantine period in Queensland and rejoined the Tigers group in recent days and will come in for his first game since round five, while Astbury featured in last week's scrimmage game after battling a persistent knee injury since late June.

But with the Tigers needing to beat the Crows to ensure a top-four finish, the duo is expected to return for the trip to Adelaide Oval.

"Shane Edwards trained strongly today and Dave Astbury trained strongly, and Dion Prestia joined in some training as well," coach Damien Hardwick said on Thursday.

"The first two have put their hands up to play, Dion's probably [aiming for] the first week of finals, but it was a really strong session from all those guys and we've got some players who are coming back which is really important for us."

Prestia is expected to play at scrimmage match level next week during the bye as he recovers from his ankle injury before the Tigers hope to have him back for their first final.

A corked calf will force Shai Bolton to miss the meeting with the Crows, who have won their past three games, while the Tigers are hopeful Tom Lynch (hamstring) will be available for the start of the finals as well.

"Our guys have been really positive with Tom. His scan came back on the minor side and he's running now and doing some strength training," the two-time premiership coach said.

"It's our understanding he'll be available for the first week of the finals at this stage which is a positive, but what we will say though is he's really important to us, so we'll make sure he's right to go. You get one chance at getting it right, so we won't rush it."

The Tigers, meanwhile, are still weighing up how they cover the loss of Ivan Soldo, who went down with a ruptured ACL and medial ligament last week.

Mabior Chol will return to the senior side, while Hardwick raised possible first-gamer Ben Miller, as well as premiership Tigers Nathan Broad and Josh Caddy, as potential replacements.

Hardwick will this week draw level with Tom Hafey for the most games as Richmond's senior coach in his 248th game at the helm of the Tigers.
