Ruck coach Ivan Maric speaks to Richmond Media about the Round 12 win over Gold Coast in this week's edition of Coaches Corner, presented by Hostplus.
A hard-fought win
"(The Suns) are definitely hard to beat...they frustrated us a little bit in that first half, but it was great that the boys stuck to the process of our game plan and got the win."
Ivan Soldo shouldering the ruck load
"He rolled his ankle against Brisbane (Round 10) early in that game so played that whole game with a rolled ankle and then he had to get up for the Port Adelaide game (Round 11) which was four days later. He earned a lot of respect from his teammates and the coaches. He's grown a lot this year and had a really solid game on the weekend."
Mabior Chol's ruckwork
"At the centre bounce, he's so athletic. But the value he's adding is when the ball hits the ground, his silky skills and follow up. He just adds a bit of polish and he's really hard to match up on as well, so it's great for our side."
Chol's set shot accuracy
"He's put a lot of time into his set shot goalkicking and it's great to see him get rewarded for that."
Toby Nankervis' return
"He's pretty close to playing. He trained really well and he's recovered from his operation so quickly. He's going to be up for selection I suppose this week, which is exciting for us."
Callum Coleman-Jones update
"Callum got a little hotspot in his foot...He was really fit and training really well but it popped up at an unfortunate time for him. So, he's probably going to be another couple of weeks away but he's out running at the moment."
Round 13 against Essendon
"They're quite diverse (in the ruck), similar to us. I'd expect (Tom) Bellchambers to come back in being a bit more experienced, but (Sam) Draper has shown some really good signs in the ruck. We're going to have to be ready, no matter who we play. We're looking forward to it."
More stoppages around the ground in Darwin
"There could be. It's been a funny season, some games we're having a lot of stoppages and other games we're not. There probably will be, being up in Darwin, being a bit slippery... We'll just have to deal with it just like we have been with everything else thrown at us this year."
