Richmond and Essendon will again be the showpiece of the AFL's Sir Doug Nicholls Round in 2020, with today's announcement of 'Dreamtime in Darwin'.

The Tigers will travel to the Northern Territory in Round 13 to face the Bombers at Darwin's TIO Stadium on Saturday, August 22 from 7:40pm AEST (7:10pm local time).

Bolton's Dreamtime jumper

Shai Bolton explains the story behind the design of the 2020 Dreamtime jumper.

Richmond will wear the 10th iteration of its Dreamtime jumper in the match. Launched in May this year, the guernsey was designed by 2019 premiership player Shai Bolton, a proud Noongar man from Western Australia, in collaboration with his mother, Kylie Pickett, and nan, Beverley Pickett to create the artwork, and nan, Lynley Pickett to tell the story of the design.

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale welcomed this morning's announcement and is excited by the prospect of 2020's 'Dreamtime in Darwin'. 

“Dreamtime is a highly significant game for both Richmond and Essendon, and a major event on the AFL calendar,” Gale said.

“The unique opportunity to play Dreamtime 2020 in Darwin is one that the whole Club looks forward to immensely.”

AFL social policy and inclusion manager Tanya Hosch said "Dreamtime in Darwin" would be a "special moment" and a "true celebration of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and their contribution to Australian Football, and how players past and present have inspired generations of Australians".

"Sir Doug Nicholls Round creates a platform to profile players who have changed the game’s history and faced racism and discrimination to fight for equality and recognition, such as Syd Jackson has," Hosch said.

"2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the Discrimination and Racial and Religious Vilification Act which was introduced in 1995.
