Rhyan Mansell has failed to overturn his three match suspension at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old forward's ban for making contact with St Kilda's Liam O'Connell failed to be overturned, with the Tribunal upholding the careless conduct, high contact and severe impact sanction.

Mansell and Richmond disagreed that the incident was rough conduct or careless, arguing that he was attempting to get separation from O'Connell, who was running back with the flight of the ball and attempting to mark it, in order to win the football.

Richmond stated O'Connell chose to run back with the flight to attempt to mark the ball. However, the AFL argued that Mansell's act breached a player's duty of care to opponents, and should have seen the oncoming traffic into the contest before choosing to push O'Connell.

The Tribunal did not accept Mansell's argument that he did not see the players running forward to contest the mark, and declared his eyes were not on the ball.

Mansell will next be available for selection in Richmond's Round 7 Anzac Eve match against Melbourne at the MCG.
