Richmond’s first pick (No. 12 overall) in the 2014 National Draft, Corey Ellis, will make his AFL debut against Geelong at the MCG on Saturday.
Following an interrupted pre-season due to foot surgery, Ellis has produced some eye-catching performances for Richmond’s VFL team in recent weeks, which led to his senior selection for the Round 5 clash with the Cats.
He played a key role through the midfield in the Tigers’ win against Frankston in their VFL encounter last Saturday, winning plenty of contested ball, and initiating many attacking moves for the team due to his good decision-making, combined with slick disposal.

The inclusion of Ellis is one of five changes to the Richmond team that lost to Melbourne by 32 points at the MCG last Friday night. Experienced pair Troy Chaplin (calf) and Chris Newman (back) return after missing last week’s match due to injury, while tall forward Ty Vickery and the Club’s first pick in the 2013 National Draft, Ben Lennon, will make their first senior appearances this season.
Out of the Richmond side go injured trio Nathan Gordon (quadricep), Ben Griffiths (calf) and Nathan Drummond (knee), along with Matt McDonough and Arnot, who have both been omitted.
The Tigers’ three emergencies for the Round 5 clash with Geelong are McDonough, Arnot and Dylan Grimes.
