According to scientific research, a tiger’s roar in the jungle is so powerful, it has the capacity to paralyse other animals within range.

In AFL football, the Tigers’ roar has taken on a similarly menacing manifestation . . .

The rousing roar of a Richmond crowd, when the Tigers are on a roll, strikes fear into the hearts and minds of opposition teams.

Such was the influence of the Tiger Army at times during the 2011 season, even rival coaches felt compelled to make comment in their post-match press conferences.

After Richmond’s Round 2 draw with St Kilda at the MCG, the Saints’ (then) coach Ross Lyon said:  “I thought we were game to come back when they had full momentum and the Tiger roar happening in the background.”

Then, following the Tigers’ runaway victory over Fremantle at the MCG in Round 7, (then) Dockers’ coach Mark Harvey commented:  “When you’ve got a crowd like a Richmond crowd, they get involved.  And, we were trying to take that away from Richmond, but we just couldn’t . . .”

Given the stirring nature of the Tiger roar at Richmond games, it made perfect sense for the Club to revolve its 2012 membership campaign around this iconic Yellow and Black attribute.

“Roar Pride, Roar Passion, Roar Power” is a reflection of the honour Tiger fans feel in supporting such a heritage-rich, overall successful league club, and the overwhelming commitment they make to the Yellow and Black cause which, as a combination, truly is an irresistible force.

This emotion-charged connection to the Club, shapes as a key element in Richmond’s resurgence, with Damien Hardwick’s talented, young charges drawing significant inspiration from the “Roar Pride, Roar Passion and Roar Power” of the mighty Tiger Army.
