Promising young Richmond defender, Jake Batchelor, has been rewarded for his impressive debut season at Tigerland in 2011 with a contract extension.

Batchelor, who made 16 senior appearances, and averaged 12.6 disposals per game, has signed a new deal, binding him to the Club at least until the end of the 2013 season.

He joins fellow first-year pair Reece Conca and Brad Helbig, along with second-year player, Dylan Grimes, who have all made long-term commitments to the Tigers in recent months.

“We are extremely pleased to have re-signed Jake, as he’s a quality young man, who has shown his capacity to excel at the game’s highest level,” said Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Craig Cameron.

“He has the attributes to be a most valuable member of our side for many years.”

Batchelor won high praise this year for his work ethic, composure under pressure in the back half, decision-making and kicking skills.

The 19-year-old had a season-high 23 disposals in Richmond’s Round 7 victory over Fremantle at the MCG, and received an AFL Rising Star nomination following his Round 16 performance against Essendon.
