Richmond’s ME Bank Centre, Punt Road Oval, hosted 100 young footballers from multicultural and Indigenous backgrounds for a high-performance testing camp last weekend.

The initiative was part of AFL Victoria’s programming to provide pathways for young footballers of Indigenous and multicultural backgrounds.

Participants were taken through their paces by ‘Draft Star’, which operates the Combine Testing for the emerging talent in the AFL’s National Draft.

The ‘Roar’ is back in 2013, become a member of Richmond today.

The young players performed a variety of drills that tested their kicking and handballing skills, vertical leap, 20-metre sprint and agility.

Results of the high-performance testing will assist the selection of both the Victorian Indigenous Kickstart Camp, and the Multicultural Development Squad.

Each of the teams will participate in tournaments throughout 2013 and players will have the opportunity to be selected for additional Indigenous or multicultural sides later in the year.

Richmond supports a number of Indigenous and multicultural programs, as part of its commitment to engaging more people and communities, and introducing them to Australian Football.

The Tigers recently announced that their Indigenous Centre, the Korin Gamadji Institute, will partner with the AFL and AFL Victoria to support the Laguntas Indigenous Tigers program.
