Richmond defender David Astbury will miss the remaining two games of the pre-season competition with a minor foot injury.

The Tigers? medical staff discovered a stress reaction in his left foot, following last weekend?s pre-season match against Essendon in Wangaratta.

Astbury had completed every session in his first full pre-season since arriving at Tigerland at the end of 2009, and was among the best players in the win over the Bombers, for his performance against dangerous forward Michael Hurley.

''Clearly the selection process for round one is heating up, and everyone will be doing their best to cement a spot in that team during the next few weeks,'' Astbury said.

''It's very frustrating that I'll miss the opportunity to do that, but hopefully I'll still be considered and get an opportunity soon.''

The 22-year-old has experienced an unlucky streak with injury, since suffering a dislocated kneecap against Sydney in Round 12, 2011.

After a lengthy layoff, he returned for the final two games of the 2012 season, taking his career tally to 24 matches.
