Flying starts were a feature of Richmond’s game this year . . .
The Tigers won 16 of their 23 opening quarters for the season, losing just five, and drawing the two others.
The trend in second quarters also was really positive, with the team winning 15 and losing eight.
In the so-called premiership quarter, however – the third term – it was a different story.

Richmond won 12 and lost 11 third quarters throughout the season, allowing its opposition back into the contest after half-time on several occasions.
But the quarter-by-quarter analysis shows that the Tigers, more often than not, were able to steady in the final term. They won 14 of 23 last quarters for the season.
Overall, Richmond won 57 quarters, lost 33, and drew two.
Only premier team Hawthorn (68-31-1), runner-up Fremantle (61-37-2), Geelong (60-36-4) and Sydney (60-36-4) each won more quarters in season 2013 than the Tigers.
Remaining 2013 finalists Port Adelaide (52-44), Carlton (47-47-2) and Collingwood (44-44-4) had significantly fewer quarter wins.
