Brave, young Richmond fan Tyler Fishlock was awarded the “Child of Courage” medal at Victoria’s Pride of Australia ceremony earlier this week.
It was a celebration of people who inspire others to rise up from the mediocre, those who give their time for other people and those who, when it really mattered, did something incredible.
Tyler, 11, won his special award for the courage he’s displayed in a lifelong battle with a rare genetic cancer, which resulted in the removal of both his eyes in 2006, and on-going medical battles.
Despite all he’s been through, Tyler demonstrates a zest for life (and his beloved Tigers) that is truly inspirational and infectious.
Tyler’s father, Brad Fishlock, said he “couldn’t be prouder” of his son.
“Just when you think he should be down, he’s bringing everyone up again,” he said.
