Tom Lynch’s one-match ban for rough conduct has been upheld by the MRO.
It means the veteran forward will miss Saturday afternoon’s clash against Port Adelaide.
Lynch’s charge of rough conduct on Carlton’s Tom De Koning occurred during the second quarter of Richmond’s 13-point win on Thursday night.
The incident was graded as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact.
After just 17 minutes of deliberation, the Tribunal of Jeff Gleeson, Paul Williams and Scott Stevens declared that Lynch had intended to bump De Koning.
The forward argued that the incident was caused by circumstances out of his control.
Lynch declared he felt a “significant push” from Carlton defender Jacob Weitering and was put into a vulnerable position that forced him to turn his body and brace for contact.
“I’m in a vulnerable position and I react to get my head out of the dangerous position it was in,” Lynch said during the hearing.
He further said he had not attempted to bump or make high contact.
The Tribunal shared their reasoning for the decision to uphold the rough conduct and carless grading.
“We find that this was a bump by Lynch. He was pushed to some extent by Weitering, but this did not cause him to bump," they said.
“Lynch intended to bump De Koning, and he did bump De Koning.
“We reject the evidence and the argument that this was not a bump but rather bracing for impact.
“We reject the evident and argument that Lynch moved in an upward motion, so as to avoid contact to his head.
“We find that the contact to De Koning was not caused by circumstances beyond the control of Lynch."
De Koning returned to the field, saw out the match and did not undergo a HIA.
Lynch will be available for selection in Round 3, when Richmond face St Kilda at Marvel Stadium.
