Richmond’s Daniel Jackson believes the club’s gritty 27-point win over Fremantle was the perfect preparation for what lies ahead this season
Jackson’s goal at the 15-minute mark of the final term helped the Tigers clinch their 11th victory of the season to entrench them inside the top eight.
The 27-year-old said the energy-sapping nature of a match against Fremantle was a great experience for the Tiger team.
“I can say personally, I was knackered at the 15 minute mark of the last quarter I was nearly throwing up out on the field,” Jackson told Crocmedia’s AFL Live.
“A few other guys were picking themselves up very slowly at the bottom of stoppages.
“It’s great practice for us.”
Jackson continued his career-best form, 22 disposals to go with a game-high eight tackles.
Known for their attacking style, Jackson said it would be the defensive side of the Tigers’ game that would stand up at the business end of the season.
"Whilst we took our chances to show that little bit of polish, it was more that grinding kind of game we prided ourselves on,” he said.
“The polish, the flow and the goal kicking comes naturally to us. It’s just about getting these young guys to do those little things and crash in (to stoppages).
“Our young guys have got this hunger I haven’t seen in our group in the last 10 years that I’ve been here. We love playing together and you can see the way we sing the song, we love winning together.”
Jackson said the club was hungry for the challenge against 2012 grand finalists Sydney and Hawthorn in the fortnight ahead.
