It’s been a tough year for the children and families in The Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s ‘Children Ahead’ program, who are recovering from traumatic events or violent circumstances.
The Richmond Football Club, through its partnership with The Foundation wanted to play a small part in creating a special day for over 60 children and their families in the program, by throwing them a Christmas party.
The unique Richmond experience included a tour of the ME Bank Centre, participating in a football clinic on the oval with their favourite Richmond players, a visit from Santa and receiving a Christmas gift donated by Richmond members, supporters, staff and players.
Richmond players, Troy Chaplin, Jack Riewoldt, Steven Morris, Dylan Grimes, Ricky Petterd, Reece Conca and David Astbury gave their time after their Saturday morning training session to brighten the kids’ day.
Richmond defender, Steven Morris said he’s seen a positive change in the young people he’s worked with through The Alannah and Madeline Foundation.
“Through the partnership, we’ve been able to see a real difference in the kids that come out and visit at the footy club, and when you do see that difference in the children it makes it pretty easy to want to get out there,” Morris said.
The Alannah and Madeline Foundation aim to reduce violence and bullying to children around Australia through various programs and initiatives. Richmond partners with the charity and its Better Buddies Framework which aims to reduce bullying and create friendly and caring school environments.
