Richmond utility Ricky Petterd believes the Tigers need to be bold with the way they play for the full four quarters, in order to avoid opposition comebacks, like the one again orchestrated by Carlton in last Thursday night’s thrilling MCG contest.
Petterd, who was an excellent contributor throughout the match for Richmond, pinpointed a passage of play in the frenetic final term, which showed how the Tigers should approach such situations.

“I think Brandon Ellis gave it to Bachar (Houli), or it might have been the other way round. It was just that little link-up play that broke the game open a little bit,” Petterd said.
“We’ve just got to continue to do that in the last quarters of games, because we can do it for the first halves.
“It’s not our ‘tank’ – we’re a really fit team. It’s just having the confidence to do it and not worry about making that mistake.”
Petterd admitted memories of last year’s elimination final fade-out against Carlton did resurface during the last quarter on Thursday night.

“I think what drove us is that. The boys did not want that to happen again, and I suppose it was just us taking the game on and, luckily, we got over the line . . . It was a really hard-fought win,” he said.
