Former Richmond captain and four-time Jack Dyer Medallist, Wayne Campbell, believes the Tigers’ latest recruit, Chris Knights, has the necessary attributes to be a really good fit for the Club’s playing group.

“Even just listening to him speaking to the media, he’s just a mature guy, he’s played some footy, and he’s at that age demographic we haven’t got many of,” Campbell said on the first “Talking Tigers” off-season special.

“We’re fairly young, and you have Brad Miller and Kelvin Moore go out of the squad as well, so we get a bit younger . . .

“Just to bring in a guy like Chris and, hopefully, Troy Chaplin as well, if all that works out, will be great for the group.”

Campbell, who nowadays heads up leadership development at Richmond, kept an eye on Knights’ career with the Adelaide Crows over the past few seasons.
“I saw him a couple of years ago, where he kicked those 40-odd goals and there were some discussions at that stage as to whether he might come over then, so I paid him a bit more attention,” he said.

“Obviously, he’s had a couple of injury issues and form issues the last couple of years. But we’ve seen players, who have been able to come into our side over the last two years, like Shaun Grigg, Bachar (Houli), Ivan (Maric) and Brad Miller, and do really well.  So, hopefully, Chris can do the same.”

Campbell regards Knights’ versatility as a valuable asset for the Tigers . . .

“He played a bit of wing this year for Adelaide, as well as midfield, high forward, deep forward, and he can kick a goal.  You can never have too many of those players,” Campbell said.
