Richmond utility Laura Bailey has announced her retirement from the AFLW competition.

The 27-year-old joined Richmond's VFLW program in 2018 following two seasons with the Western Bulldogs where she played eight AFLW games.

Arriving at the Club as a reliable defender, Bailey added versatility to her game, showing capability as a crafty forward.

Bailey was rewarded for a strong 2019 VFLW season with elevation to the Tigers' inaugural AFLW list. She received a pre-draft bid from Carlton at pick No. 59 overall, but Richmond matched the bid with its next available selection (No. 71 overall).

The police officer played all but one of the Tigers' six matches in their inaugural season, averaging 6.2 disposals per game. 

Richmond’s Head of Women’s Football Kate Sheahan thanked Bailey for her contribution to the Club. 

"We thank Laura for her dedication to our program and the team-first attitude she has shown," Sheahan said.

"She's a popular member of our squad and has been a fine role role model for the playing group. 

"We wish her all the best for the next chapter, as she focuses on her career as a police woman."
