Non-competing players’ football program
We were updated late Friday around what the rest of our squad can be doing while the AFL games are being played, and at this stage we are not allowed to play any kind of scratch matches with other clubs, and obviously the VFL is suspended. So at the moment, they are training, they trained separately last Thursday afternoon to the group.
We had 17 players doing various drills together, little bit of conditioning and some seven v seven games, which was really competitive, but great conditioning for them and a bit of fun as well, so they actually got to compete amongst each other.
So it’s that sort of template that we’re going to use for those guys, and as hard as it is for no games available for some of them, it’s an opportunity for them to work on their craft still, and improve some aspects of their conditioning, and we’ll come up with some novel things for them to do as well.
The group is pretty tight and well connected as we all know, so they handle it really really well and we’ll continue to evolve that over the next couple of weeks and see where we end up.
Bachar Houli, calf
Bachar in our main training session two days before the Round 1 game, just during the warm up noticed some awareness in his soleus, in the calf area and he obviously went and had some scans, which showed a small strain, so he’ll miss a couple of games.
Probably best chance is the Round 4 game coming back, but given his history, he’s had one or two of these in the past, as we always say we’ll take a conservative approach, and when he’s ready to go, he’ll be back playing.
We’re planning for him to start jogging on Wednesday, which will be good, so we’ll see how it pans out.
Nick Vlastuin, concussion
Nick won’t play this week, so the Doc’s already made that ruling, and given we’ve got an extended break after Round 2, nine days, he’d be a pretty good chance I would think after that, but he’ll have to go through the usual concussion protocols, and the Docs will make a really informed decision on his availability.
