The VFL Tigers were overrun by Frankston on Friday night, losing by 25-points at Kinetic Stadium.

Richmond started strongly, taking a 12-point lead into the quarter-time break, on the back of a scintillating quarter by key forward Jacob Bauer, who kicked two early goals. Midfielder Tyler Sonsie also started well, collecting 16 disposals in the first term.

In the second term the Tigers held the Dolphins at bay, thanks to classy goals by Sonsie and livewire forward Massimo Raso. Richmond enjoyed a 16-point lead into the main break.

After half-time Frankston came out firing, with three goals early in the term, two of those coming from Blake O’Leary, and when Tom Blamires kicked truly approaching time on, the Dolphins were in front.

But a late goal by Tigers youngster Jasper Alger followed by Bauer’s fourth major had Richmond leading by 15-points with a quarter to play. As the final term began the Tigers had plenty of inside 50’s but squandered multiple chances to extend their lead, with the home side going down the other end and making them pay.

Frankston made the most of their chances in the last quarter, kicking 7.1 to the Tigers' three behinds, to run out 25-point winners in front of a strong crowd at Kinetic Stadium.

For Richmond, Sonsie starred with 35 disposals and a goal, while Kaleb Smith was also impressive with 31 disposals, as he continually repelled the Dolphins attacking forays, and Bauer was a constant threat up forward with four goals. It was the Tigers' first loss of the VFL season.
