Richmond captain Trent Cotchin says it was important for the team to generate their own atmosphere in Thursday night’s win over Carlton at the MCG, to fill the void left by the absence of the Tiger Army.
The Tigers were energetic from the get-go, running out to an empty MCG with plenty of enthusiasm despite there being no mascots, no banner and no drums.
"We knew it was going to be really different and we had to create our own atmosphere, which whether the crowd are here or not, we try to do anyway," Cotchin said.
"(It was) a different experience."
Richmond adapted quickly to the unusual circumstances, bursting away with the first five goals to lay the groundwork for its 24-point win.
"(I was) really proud of the boys coming out of the blocks really well, which is always a good thing, and finishing the game strong," Cotchin said.

Teammate Tom Lynch agreed, while also acknowledging the Tigers have "areas to improve".
"It was very quick and the boys really started well which was good," he said.
"It was a little bit disappointing that we didn’t go on with it but was great to get the ball rolling early.
"Overall, we’re happy to take the four points."
