Patrick Naish provided some brightness amid the gloom for Richmond in last Friday night’s 67-point loss to Geelong at the MCG.
The talented, 20-year-old Tiger father-son selection made an impressive AFL debut in his wing role.
He finished the match with 20 disposals, five inside-50s, five marks, plus a goal, and clearly didn’t look out of place on the big stage against the ladder leader.
Naish, who was Richmond’s fifth AFL debutant so far this season, showcased his pace, hard running, composure and kicking skills throughout the contest.
Statistically, it was a better senior debut than Naish’s father, Chris, made with the Tigers in the opening round of the 1990 season against the Brisbane Bears at Carrara.
Chris, who had fine 143-game career as a clever small forward at Richmond from 1990-97, had 13 disposals and took three marks, but didn’t kick a goal in the Tigers’ 59-point loss that day.
