Veteran Richmond defender Troy Chaplin celebrated his 200th league game last Saturday, against Fremantle at the MCG, with his best display of 2015.
Chaplin finished with a season-high 23 disposals, including 10 contested possessions, a game-high 13 interceptions (the next best was six), an equal team-high four rebound-50s, four inside-50s, along with eight marks.
He repeatedly repelled dangerous Docker forward thrusts, through his trademark intelligent reading of the play, which enabled him to get to the right place at the right time and create an interception.
It was classic Chaplin, as he turned defence into attack for the Tigers and provided them with major drive out of their back half.
In the end, unfortunately, the team couldn’t quite repay Chaplin with a win in his major milestone game.
But he had done everything within his powers to give Richmond a decent crack at toppling the ladder leader.
