Development coach Greg Mellor provides his exclusive summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at VFL level with Coburg in last Sunday’s win against Collingwood.

Jeromey Webberley
Had another solid game, as he continues to build form on his return from injury. Was tagged early, but still managed to collect 19 possessions and was very effective with his ball use.

Addam Maric
Unfortunately, was quite ill on match-day and, as a result, his output was lower than his usual standards. Made a contribution, however, with some strong inside-50 tackles.

Angus Graham
A serviceable performance.  Had 21 hit-outs and 16 possessions, alternating between ruck and full-forward.  Took some strong marks, but we are looking for him to convert more on the scoreboard.

Jayden Post
Was solid, rather than influential, in his role as a key back. Controlled his opponent and used the ball well, but we would like him to impact more offensively.

 Brett O’Hanlon
Returned after two AFL games with Richmond and was a valuable contributor, gathering 16 possessions, playing as a wingman. His ability to play his role is excellent, as is his kicking, although he missed a couple of gettable shots for goal on the day.

Kel Moore
Took another step forward, playing his first senior VFL game, and got through really well.  Such is his versatility, he played on the opposition’s both small and tall key forwards, and contributed well to the team. We look forward to him building on this performance and getting to the stage where he can push for AFL selection.

Andrew Browne
Had another strong game.  His ruckwork was good and he combined well with Matt White, in particular, to gain a number of vital clearances for the team.

Luke McGuane
Worked himself into the game following a quiet first half.  Particularly pleasing was some really strong efforts from him in the forward area, with his defensive pressure. Had a high number of shots for goal, but his conversion needs to be better.

Tom Derickx
Had another reliable game in defence, displaying impressive aggressive at both his opponents and the ball.  Is working on a couple of minor areas of his game, but he continues to show good signs each week.

Todd Elton
Continued on from the previous week’s performance and was outstanding in the first half, with 13 possessions and seven marks.  Tired in the second half, but showed that he is going to be an exciting player for Richmond in the near future.

Dylan Grimes
Coburg had the luxury of playing him for a half on his return from injury.  He soon showed he has had lost none of his run and zip.  His ability to read the play and take intercept marks was a highlight, and he pulled up well from his time on the ground.

Matt White
Had another top game.  With 28 hard-earned, inside possessions, he was a crucial player in the team’s victory, combining very well with ruckman Andrew Browne. Unfortunately, he was reported for unintentional head-high contact, and subsequently suspended for one match.

Steve Verrier
Produced his best game at VFL level and is really starting to play with confidence. His ability to run hard and use the ball well, on most occasions, is particularly pleasing. We encourage him to take risks and back himself in and, while sometimes this does not come off, his capacity to impact the play, when it does, is excellent.

Development team

Gibson Turner
Had his best game for Coburg.  Demonstrated his ability to take marks as a small forward.  His work rate continues to improve and he set up a number of scoring shots for the team.  He finished with 1.3, so we need him to be more effective in front of goal.

Gideon Simon
Was a solid performer, improving as the game wore on.  Is a hard, tough, inside midfielder, who also has shown some ability when going forward.

Ben Darrou
Went back to the Development team this week and starred.  Picked up 30 possessions from the key defensive post, which was an outstanding contribution. His ability to set up his offensive transition running was excellent.
