They won their first seven games of the ’95 season and went on to finish third that year, beaten in the preliminary final by Geelong.
After scraping in by five points against AFL debutant Fremantle in Round 1, 1995, Richmond, under John Northey’s coaching guidance, then defeated St Kilda by 26 points in Round 2, Hawthorn by six points in Round 3, North Melbourne by 49 points in a big Round 4 Anzac Day eve clash, Brisbane by 20 points in Round 5, Collingwood by 12 points in Round 6 and Adelaide by 14 points in Round 7, before suffering a 72-point loss to Geelong in Round 8.
Richmond’s best start to a season was in 1920, when it won the first eight games, en route to an historic maiden league premiership.
