Dynamic Richmond midfielder Dustin Martin is set to cap his best season of AFL football by figuring prominently in the 2016 Brownlow Medal count to be held tonight at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium.
Martin won his inaugural Jack Dyer Medal earlier this month, and also gained selection in the All Australian team for the first time.
Now all Tiger eyes turn to the game’s most prestigious individual award to see if Martin can upset the hot favourite, Geelong superstar Patrick Dangerfield.
Although Dangerfield obviously is going to be mighty hard to beat, our Dusty must surely be right in Brownlow contention.
I’ve tracked his round-by-round performances throughout the season and reckon he will poll about 25 votes as a minimum.
Here’s my form guide to Dustin Martin’s superb 2016 season . . .
Round 1 v Carlton, MCG (nine-point win): 24 disposals, six clearances. Likely to poll one or two votes.
Round 2 v Collingwood, MCG (one-point loss): 30 disposals, 14 contested possessions, six marks, three clearances, four tackles. One or two votes.
Round 3 v Adelaide, Etihad Stadium (36-point loss): No votes.
Round 4 v West Coast, Domain Stadium (68-point loss): No votes.

Round 6 v Port Adelaide, MCG (35-point loss): Clearly Richmond’s best on the night with 31 disposals, 16 contested possessions, seven inside-50s, six clearances, five rebound-50s, five marks. Chance to pick up one vote.
Round 7 v Hawthorn, MCG (46-point loss): Again, clearly Richmond’s best with 28 disposals, 15 contested possessions, six clearances, five inside-50s and five tackles. Chance for one or two votes.
