Skilful, speedy small forward Jayden Short will make his AFL debut with Richmond in Friday night’s blockbuster against Collingwood at the MCG.

Earlier today, Short was promoted from the Tigers’ rookie list to the senior list, as a replacement for Reece Conca, who has been placed on the Club’s long-term injury list (with hamstring damage).

Short, 177cm and 72kg, was Richmond’s first pick (No. 11 overall) in the rookie draft at the end of 2014.

He showed some impressive signs at VFL level for the Tigers in 2015, predominantly across the forward line, with occasional stints through the midfield.

The 20-year-old, recruited from TAC Cup team Northern Knights, is renowned for his running ability, kicking skills, defensive pressure and goal sense.

He has been brought into Richmond’s line-up for the big clash with Collingwood, along with experienced pair Shaun Grigg and Taylor Hunt.

They replace Shane Edwards, who has a broken hand, Daniel Rioli, who copped a minor leg injury during his opening round AFL debut, and Steven Morris, who has been omitted.

Grigg, a 27-year-old veteran of 147 league games all-up (104 with Richmond), has recovered from the broken thumb that forced him to miss the opening round victory over Carlton.

Hunt, 25, played all 23 games in his debut season at Tigerland last year, after transferring from Geelong, but was not selected for the Round 1 match.

Richmond’s three emergencies for the Round 2 encounter with Collingwood are Ben Lennon, Andrew Moore and Troy Chaplin.
