The Bachar Houli Foundation is excited to announce it has received $15 million of Albanese Labor Government funding that will allow it to open a brand-new $25 million state-of-the-art facility.
The Aspire Sports Centre (ASC), which will serve as the main base for Bachar Houli Foundation (BHF) programs and the home for the Islamic College of Sport, will be built at the Coburg Moreland Bowls Club, pending Council approval.
Outside of school hours, it will also be a facility for community and sporting club use, with a focus on enabling women and girls’ participation by providing a culturally safe and welcoming space. This will include having dedicated times and spaces for all women sport, recreation activities and programs.
The all-female community sport competition and programming will be managed by BHF.
BHF aims to empower young people through sport and faith to make the most of their opportunities, and contribute to a thriving, multicultural nation. The ASC is a significant step to help BHF fulfil this mission.
BHF is committed to promoting participation and leadership in sport, and this new hub will offer both young Islamic people across Melbourne, local sports groups and women the opportunity to connect, compete, and thrive in an environment designed to empower and inspire.
Bachar Houli Foundation founder Bachar Houli said that the facility would help to harness social cohesion through sport, a key pillar of the Foundation.
“We are incredibly proud to launch our plans for this $25 million facility, which will be the home of the Bachar Houli Foundation programs, as well as the Islamic College of Sport,” Houli said.
“The Aspire Sports Centre will also serve as a beacon of opportunity for women in sport, while continuing the Foundation's mission to provide elite opportunities for people in our community.
“Beyond that, the ASC will be a welcoming, safe and supportive space. It will be an inclusive, thriving, active and culturally diverse place where Muslim and non-Muslim communities can connect through sport.”

“This funding from the Albanese Government will ensure the Bachar Houli Foundation can continue its crucial work to empower young people through sport.”

“Sport is a powerful way for many young people to come together and connect with people beyond their immediate social circles, enhancing everyone’s sense of belonging.”
Key features of the new $25 million facility include:
- 12 Classrooms and multi-purpose spaces – for Islamic College of Sport, Bachar Houli Foundation and community use
- Indoor Sport Hall –
- High performance gym and recovery spaces including associated wet areas and changerooms
- Amenities for staff and students including prayer room, canteen, first aid.
- Foyer including function space
- Inclusive (i.e. all ability access/CALD/family/child-safe/gender neutral) facilities
The ASC will also provide an educational pathway for students at the Islamic College of Sport, offering a holistic approach to academic and athletic development. Through this partnership, the Foundation is empowering young people to become future leaders in sport, education, and their communities.

Islamic College of Sport
The Islamic College of Sport is an independent senior secondary school, established by the Bachar Houli Foundation to offer young Muslim students an environment where they can explore their faith and sense of identity while completing a holistic and applied education that is connected to genuine sports industry and community experiences. Students at the College study and receive the Victorian Certificate of Education – Vocational Major.
