History was made at Punt Road Oval, when Richmond hosted the first-ever Youth Girls TAC Cup match on Saturday, March 4.
Murray Bushrangers defeated Bendigo Pioneers by 70 points in the inaugural game of the under-18 girls competition.
The twelve team competition, which is contested over five rounds, will provide leadership and mentoring opportunities to junior female footballers with their sights set on a career in the AFL.
Richmond has a close connection with the Bushrangers and Pioneers, through its Next Generation Academy program, and is committed to developing both male and female talent in its region.
The Tigers' Next Generation Academy program zone includes the Goulburn Murray, Bendigo, Sunraysia, and North Central areas of Victoria.
Last Sunday Richmond announced a partnership with Bendigo Thunder Women’s Football Club, further strengthening the talent and participation pathway for women in Victoria’s central and northern regions.
