Richmond’s Physical Performance Manager Peter Burge provides an update on the injury status of Dion Prestia, Bachar Houli, Shaun Hampson, Daniel Rioli and Nathan Drummond.
Dion Prestia
“Dion had his ankle surgery pre-Christmas and resumed training with the group in January and then just had a little minor hamstring injury just before the JLT series. So he’s back training with the group now and we’re just yet to determine whether he’s ready to go next week or not.”
Bachar Houli
“Bachar had been training well. He just pulled up a little bit sore after the game against Essendon in Wangaratta, but he was back with the group today doing footy training and like Dion we’re just going to determine over the next couple of days his availability for next week, but it’s looking really positive.”
Shaun Hampson
“Shaun’s had a longer-term disc injury and has needed some management over time. He played games towards the end of last season and did really well. And we just managed his pre-season again. He’s now resuming skills as of Sunday with the group and will progress over the next week and then we’ll determine when he’s able to play.”
Daniel Rioli
“Daniel looks great. Daniel’s had a good couple of weeks of running. He’s now not just jogging, he’s actually running and doing strides. Given the time he’s had out, we’re still going to be very careful with the time-frame and how much conditioning he needs before we can resume football, but the great thing is he looks balanced, his gait is looking really good, and we’ll just keep progressing that . . . progressing his speed, and get some real pre-season conditioning into him before we progress into skills.”
Nathan Drummond
“It’s been a long preparation for him coming off his ACL. He’s been training with the main group now for around four weeks, doing full contact drills, changing direction, running flat out, and our plan for him is to return the week of AFL Round 2, obviously probably through the VFL. So that’s only a week and a half away, which is fantastic news."
