Richmond superstar Dustin Martin was rewarded for his brilliant performance against Hawthorn at the MCG last Sunday with maximum votes in the AFL Coaches’ Association’s Player of the Year Award Round 9 voting.
Martin received 10 votes from respective coaches Damien Hardwick (Richmond) and Alastair Clarkson (Hawthorn) after finishing with his season-high and a game-high 37 disposals, including a game-high 17 contested possessions, game-high 10 clearances, game-high six centre clearances, four inside-50s, six marks, two goals, nine score involvements and a game-high 600 metres gained in the Tigers’ 36-point win.

Fill-in Richmond captain Shane Edwards, continuing his fine form, picked up seven votes. Edwards had 26 disposals, eight intercepts, eight score involvements and took seven marks.
Dashing defender Bachar Houli collected four votes following another top-class display – 35 disposals, four rebound-50s, nine marks and 338 metres gained.
Hard-running utility Brandon Ellis, who has hit a rich vein of form, was given three votes. Ellis had a season-high 35 disposals, including five clearances, four rebound-50s, four inside-50s, and took a game-high 13 marks.
Rounding out Richmond’s Round 9 vote-getters in the prestigious coaches’ award were gun midfielder Dion Prestia (two votes) and dependable defender Dylan Grimes (two votes).
