After 15 years as Richmond’s General Manager of Commercial Operations and Stakeholder Engagement, Simon Derrick announced that he would be departing the Club after accepting the role of Chief Executive Officer of NBL Club South East Melbourne Phoenix.
Derrick has been a key member of the Executive, overseeing a significant period of transformation across the Club, including record commercial growth across various portfolios he has led.
His appointment to the Executive in 2009 coincided with several important milestones for the Club, which helped set the foundations for the current Richmond.
Derrick has been a key part of the inaugural 3-0-75 strategy, significant capital raising programs, the establishment of Richmond’s AFLW program, record revenue growth, and on-field success, including three AFL premierships.
Richmond CEO Shane Dunne wished Derrick well for the future.
“Simon has helped shape, develop and demonstrate the culture and values of our Club. This has helped us commercially and strengthened our financial position but also partnered us with organisations and individuals committed to delivering our social impact program, which is so important to our Club and community,” Dunne added.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Simon. We are incredibly proud of his achievements and wish him success.”
Derrick acknowledged the current and previous Board, Executive, players, and staff at Richmond.
"In particular, I want to thank my colleagues across the executive branch and my team for their support and unwavering care to the Club and our stakeholders. We have a talented and committed group of people at Richmond, and I know the Club is in great hands for this next chapter.” Derrick added.
“Thanks to our partners, coteries, football, community stakeholders, and the mighty Tiger Army, who I have been so proud to share this journey. Richmond will always hold a special place for me and my family, and I look forward to watching on from the sidelines as the Club continues to thrive on and off the fields.”
Derrick will remain at the Club for the interim, supporting the transition process.
