Richmond is proud to announce that its Charity Shield match against Collingwood last month has elevated total fundraising for Foodbank Victoria beyond 206,000 meals.
A total of 10,485 tickets were sold for the AAMI Community Series game, and additional fundraising efforts online, at the venue, and through the auction of match-worn jumpers contributed to the impressive milestone.
In addition, Richmond and Collingwood worked collaboratively to raise awareness for Foodbank Victoria, utilising marketing campaigns and media coverage leading up to the event to amplify their important messages.
The 206,000 meals represent the combined fundraising efforts of both clubs over the past two years for Foodbank Victoria.
Foodbank Victoria plays a crucial role in supporting those facing financial hardship, providing food to 1.4 million individuals every three weeks— equivalent to the entire population of the state when Richmond and Collingwood first met in the VFL in 1908.
Richmond CEO Shane Dunne shared the Club's pride in the achievement.
"Delivering over 206,000 meals to Victorians in need is a remarkable accomplishment, and the Tiger Army should be incredibly proud of their role in making this happen,” he said.
“We view this game as a meaningful way for our Club to give back to the community, and we are delighted to have been able to assist Foodbank Victoria with this initiative.”
Foodbank Victoria CEO Dave McNamara praised the efforts across the board.
"These two great footy clubs helped Victorian families get through one of the toughest seasons on record last year and they are doing it again as we head into winter this year.
"With 69,000 people a day relying on Foodbank to feed their families, the meals raised through the Charity Shield means families don't have to choose between paying a medical bill or food, having their home heated or food, buying schoolbooks or food.
"For a second year running, Tigers and Pies fans have made sure there is food on the table for their communities - what an awesome effort."
