Richmond AFLW coach Ryan Ferguson praised his side’s professionalism on Tuesday night at IKON Park, as the Tigers defeated Port Adelaide to record their fourth win in a row.
Ferguson described the 21-point win as a “strong performance,” and was pleased to see his side “stick at our game.”
“I liked that we controlled the game from the outset,” and “there were some professional moments…I like that we controlled (the contest),” Ferguson said.
“There is so much from the game to reassert in our own minds what is working and what our brand of footy looks like at our best.”
“We are learning so much every week, and we’re doing it from a dominant position at the moment,” he said.
Citing his side’s focus in the pre-season, Ferguson was pleased with the connection between the midfield and forward line on Tuesday night.
“In pre-season we went to work on that, and it’s a continual work in progress.”
“We saw definite results from that tonight,” Ferguson said.
“Overall, it’s something that has been working and trending up.”
Skipper Katie Brennan led the way in the forward line on Tuesday night with three goals.
“She’s set the tone in the last few weeks and impacted the game early,” Ferguson said of Brennan.
“In big moments, that was when she has impacted…that’s a real leader’s game.”
Brennan shared Ferguson’s sentiments on Tuesday night.
“Consistency has been one of our biggest themes over the preseason, so it's nice to have played four quarters over the past few weeks.”
“It’s great to stand up in these moments for these girls and really play our roles,” Brennan said.
“I think our system's just shining through and we're just playing for one another, so it’s pretty exciting and a good place to be.”
As the Tigers look ahead to their next challenge against the in-form Kangaroos on Sunday afternoon, Ferguson stated that his side needs to “recover, rest up (and) get to work on our game.”
“We’ve got to make sure that we keep building our game week-on-week.”
“This is the stage (where you need to) get better every week,” Ferguson said.
