An AFL career-high four goals in Richmond’s 52-point victory over Brisbane at the Gabba yesterday was a bonus for lively, young, small forward Jason Castagna.
The 20-year-old has been a revelation in the Tigers’ attack this season, along with nippy, small-forward teammates Daniel Rioli and Dan Butler, through his pace, goal sense and defensive pressure.
It’s that defensive pressure, however, which is foremost in Castagna’s mind, when he lines up in the Richmond forward line.
“I just try and build my game on my pressure, but it was good to get on the end of a few goals,” Castagna told ‘Roar Vision’ post-match at the Gabba.
“That’s our role (he, Rioli and Butler) . . . just to put the pressure on and go from there.
“We get on the end of a few goals, but our main role’s our pressure . . .
“We’ll just keep pushing each other to do that, and we help each other when we do.”
Apart from his four goals against the Lions on Sunday, Castagna had seven inside-50s and took six marks – four of them inside 50.
Castagna, Rioli and Butler, between them, have scored 20 goals out of the Tigers’ overall total of 62 in the four rounds so far this season.
