There were plenty of headline-grabbing aspects to Richmond’s heart-stopping 12-point win against Carlton at the MCG last night.
Among them was the performance of versatile big man Ben Griffiths, who took a significant step forward in his development as a senior player for the Tigers.
Griffiths took seven marks for the match (four contested), including a crucial grab deep in defence in the frantic final seconds.

He also gathered 11 disposals, kicked a goal and laid five tackles for the second successive week – an impressive tally for a man standing 200cm tall.
“I felt really good. I took a lot of contested marks, which is what I’ve been practising,” Griffiths told Roar Vision after the match.
“All the hard work is starting to pay off a bit.
“I’m just ticking the box, and getting through another week. I’ll have a look at the vision and see how I can improve.”
Griffiths wasn’t fazed by the pressure that came with Carlton’s second-half comeback, as the Tigers tried to wrestle back the momentum in the final term.
“I honestly didn’t think about it too much. I was just focused on what I needed to do,” he said.
“I was playing behind the ball a bit, so I was just trying to read their kicks and impact.”
Richmond controlled the first half and led by 31 points at the main break, before the Blues charged home to level the scores in the final quarter.
The Tigers steadied and kicked the last two goals of the match, the sealer coming from the boot of Dustin Martin with just a few seconds left on the clock. That goal was set up by Griffiths’ defensive mark in the back pocket.
“When the siren went it was an amazing feeling,” Griffiths said.
“We were all frustrated with how we played up on the Gold Coast and we trained really hard during the week, so to get the win was great.”
