WHAT'S ON?
Pre-game
We strongly encourage everyone to be in their seats by 6:40pm, with the pre-match ceremony commencing at 6:50pm.
The Anzac Day Eve pre-game ceremony will pay tribute to current service men & women, veterans and family members of the Australian Defence Force.
As the lights at the MCG are dimmed in honour of the ANZAC’s, we will take a moment of silence for private reflection, a flame from the Shrine of Remembrance will be delivered and the lighting of the cauldron will be done on stage.
This will be followed by a moving observance of the Last Post, and New Zealand and Australian National Anthems.
Post-game
At the conclusion of the Anzac Day Eve match the best player on ground will be awarded the Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
A tribute to Hughes, who was a seven-time premiership player and coach, the medal will be presented to the best player on the ground at the conclusion of Sunday night’s match, which focuses on the contribution of currently serving men and women and contemporary veterans.
The medal is a fitting nod to a man who achieved so much, both for the game and for his country.
WHAT ARE WE WEARING?
Richmond will be wearing Anzac Day Eve Guernsey, featuring the wattle flower as Richmond’s famous yellow sash to pay tribute to those that have served their country for the Club’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Melbourne at the MCG.
Wattle has deep connection with the Australian Defence Force, its powerful symbolism prominent throughout Australian War efforts.
The wattle has remained a symbol of unity and resilience for Australian people during challenging times. Wattle withstands Australia’s droughts, winds, and bushfires, and has become a representation of the nation’s ongoing spirit.
A percentage of the proceeds from Richmond’s Anzac Day Eve jumper will go towards the RSL’s Anzac Appeal, supporting the families of soldiers past and present.
ROAR STORE
The Roar Store will be open from 9:00am until the first bounce. We will be closed for the duration of the game and will reopen after the final siren.
You can always shop online for the latest Roar Store merchandise or give us a call Monday-Friday on 9426 4419.
