Damien Hardwick finished the 2022 season in 23rd place on the AFL’s all-time games coached list.

The triple Richmond premiership coach moved past John Worrall (279 games at Carlton and Essendon), Bob Rose (282 games at Collingwood and Footscray) and Mark Thompson (283 games at Geelong and Essendon) during the season.

He has coached the Tigers in 297 games for 167 wins, five draws and 125 losses. That is a winning strike-rate of 57.07 per cent.

Among the 22 coaches ahead of Hardwick on the games list, only three others coached at just the one league club – Jock McHale (713 games at Collingwood), Dick Reynolds (415 games at Essendon) and Reg Hickey (304 games at Geelong).

Hardwick, however, is unique given the fact that he’s a one-club coach at the club where he didn’t play. McHale, Reynolds and Hickey all ended up coaching at the club they played for.
