In the 2011 trade week, Richmond will be hoping it can land another player or two, who can have the sort of impact Shaun Grigg had during his first season at Tigerland this year.

The Tigers secured Grigg from Carlton this time last year in a trade for Andrew Collins. Grigg had been frustrated by a lack of opportunity with the Blues, managing just 43 games in four years at Visy Park.

Richmond’s strategy throughout the 2010 trade period was consistent with its overall philosophy of investing in a youth-led resurgence - and Grigg fitted the bill ideally.

At the time the Grigg trade was completed, Tigers General Manager of Football, Craig Cameron, said:  “Shaun is the type of player we are looking to add to our list.  He’s got some experience, having been in the AFL system a few years, but is still young and will add to our midfield mix.

“We believe he will be a good fit for our side.  He’s got a bit of size for a midfielder, is hard at it, and has a really good “engine”, which will help us next year with the changes to the interchange system.”

The 23-year-old proceeded to thrive in his new football environment . . . He played 21 games in the 2011 season, picking up a career-high 462 disposals, at an average of 22 per match.  On 14 occasions, he had 20 disposals or more, with a career-high 32 in the Round 17 clash with the Gold Coast Suns in Cairns.

Grigg was ranked No. 6 at the Club for total disposals, No. 3 for total marks, equal 5th for inside-50 entries, equal 6th for clearances, and 7th for rebound-50s.
To cap off an impressive first-up season at Richmond, Grigg finished 10th in the Jack Dyer Medal count.

The Tigers were delighted with his output and look forward to him being a valuable contributor for many seasons to come.
