Richmond and Collingwood have agreed to a trade that will see Maddie Shevlin become a Tiger and Sabrina Frederick a Magpie.
As part of the deal, the Tigers will also receive a first and third-round pick (currently No. 16 and No. 48 overall) from the Magpies, while pick 26 is going back the other way.
The deal sees the Tigers now hold two picks inside the top 10 of the Victorian pool at the upcoming AFLW Draft.
Shevlin played 13 games for Collingwood across three seasons after crossing from Melbourne, where she spent 2018. The former OzTag player is quick and athletic and will add dash to the Richmond line-up.
At 174cm, Shevlin is versatile and can be used in a range of positions. The 23-year-old has been earmarked for a role across half-back at the Tigers, where she can use her class and foot skills to set up the ground.
Frederick departs Richmond after playing all 15 of the Tigers’ AFLW games, booting five goals.
One of the Tigers’ inaugural signings, Frederick, will be etched in Richmond history forever, having kicked the Club’s first-ever AFLW goal.
Richmond Head of Women’s Football, Kate Sheahan, thanked Frederick for her contribution to building the Tigers’ AFLW program.
“I would like to thank Sabrina for her application and efforts to help establish us as a new team in the competition,” she said.
“After being presented with a new opportunity at Collingwood, Sabrina expressed a desire to seek a trade and we are very grateful to have been able to come up with a fair and amicable deal, this early in the trade period.
“We wish Sabrina the very best for all of her future pursuits and the rest of her football career.”
Sheahan added that the Club was thrilled to sign Shevlin, a player they had been tracking closely.
“We are really excited about what Maddie can bring to us with her skillset and versatility. This deal has also improved our draft hand significantly, which gives us a great chance to continue to bolster our list.”
Richmond currently hold picks 5, 16, 23, 40 and 48 Overall at the AFLW National Draft. This includes the third and 10th selection in the Victorian pool.
