RICHMOND is confident midfielder Dion Prestia has escaped serious damage to his calf and has left the door open for him to play against North Melbourne on Sunday.

Prestia didn't finish the Tigers' 77-point win over Fremantle and was later seen icing his lower leg.

Scans on Monday didn't reveal any major tears to his right calf and the Tigers will judge his availability on how he presents at the club on Tuesday.

"He's not too bad … it will depend how he pulls up tomorrow; if he's sore, he'll miss, if he's not too bad, he'll have a crack at it," football manager Neil Balme told AFL.com.au.

"He feels reasonably good but we're reasonably conservative with these guys.

"He's not ruled out completely."

The 25-year-old missed the opening three rounds after battling a pre-season hamstring injury.

The Tigers won't take any risks with the gun midfielder and will err on the side of caution this week if the soreness lingers.

Meanwhile, captain Trent Cotchin is rated an "almost certainty" to take his place in the side after missing the win over the Dockers with complications from a knee injury.

Cotchin banged his knee into the goalpost in the dying stages of their win over Collingwood and struggled to train during the week.

Fluid from the injury then leaked into his leg and irritated his calf and ankle.

But, he is expected to train this week and face the Kangaroos at Etihad Stadium.

Shaun Grigg appears likely to miss another week with the hamstring soreness he picked up against the Magpies.

Grigg was sore after that game and then aggravated the injury at training in the lead up to the Dockers' clash.

While he hasn't sustained an actual tear, he won't be pushed this week and will likely miss a second game.

Luckless midfielder Nathan Drummond looks set to miss multiple weeks with the genuine hamstring strain he suffered in the VFL on Saturday night.

Drummond was playing in his fifth game since his second knee reconstruction in April last year.

Tall draftee Ben Miller will be tested this week after being concussed in the one-point loss to Footscray.
