Almost 5,500 Richmond members descended on the Swinburne Centre at Punt Road Oval on Sunday to celebrate the Club reaching a record 90,000 members.
Last month, Richmond’s membership swelled to 90,000, which is both a Club and AFL record, and surges past the Tigers’ 2017 membership tally of 75,777.
To celebrate, the Tiger Army were invited to the Swinburne Centre on Sunday to be part of a historic aerial photograph, with attending members forming a giant ‘90’ on the oval.
Richmond President, Peggy O’Neal addressed members on the day, and announced the Club’s current membership tally of 92,705.
“We’re here to memorialise an important milestone in our Club’s history – in fact it’s also a milestone in the history of the AFL,” O’Neal said.
“No club has ever had this many members before, and it’s a tribute to the loyalty, passion and commitment of the Tiger Army.
“As I’ve said on many occasions, you’re the reason we exist, and you’re the reason we play.
“Your membership means the Club can continue to invest in our facilities and our football and community programs.”
Following the event, fans moved over to the MCG, with a crowd of 43,240 watching the Tigers’ win over Fremantle – the second highest home-and-away crowd between the two clubs.
