Tiger great’s strong midfield claim
1980 premiership rover Dale Weightman, believes today’s Tiger midfield has the potential to become the competition’s pacesetter.
Speaking on this week’s “Talking Tigers” off-season podcast special, Weightman sang the praises of the current group containing the likes of dual Jack Dyer Medallist pair, Trent Cotchin and Brett Deledio, along with Dustin Martin, Shane Tuck, Shaun Grigg, and ruckman Ivan Maric.
“I think they are starting to realise they’re as good as anyone in the comp.,” said the man named second rover in the Tigers’ Team of the Century.
“They’re only going to get better once they start working out how to work together . . . they’re only new in there.

“They’ve only been playing together for a couple of years, and with Deledio in there now.”
Weightman went on to reveal the recipe for midfield success . . .
“It’s all about sharing the load. I reckon that’s one of the things when we had really good on-ballers - we shared the load.
“You can’t get the ball every time, but when it’s your chance to block, shepherd, and do all that kind of stuff, to give your teammate a chance to get the ball - do it. Don’t expect it’s all going to be yours.”
